Ellipse

()

Keyboard: ELLIPSE

Alias: EL

Draws ellipses and elliptical arcs. You can draw ellipses or elliptical arcs dynamically by specifying the major and minor axes or by specifying the center point.

NOTE When you enter variables within the Ellipse command, enter only the uppercase letter of the variable you want to use. Entering CENTER, for example, turns on the Center Snap command. You can enter other ESNAP options while within the Ellipse command.

Arc Center <First end of ellipse axis>: Specify the first end of the ellipse. To draw an elliptical arc, choose Arc. To specify the center point of the ellipse, choose Center.

To draw an ellipse by specifying the endpoints

  1. Specify the start point on the major axis.
  2. Specify the endpoint of the major axis.
  3. Specify the half length of the minor axis.
  4. Specify the endpoint of the ellipse axis.

Second end of axis: Specify the second endpoint.

Rotation <Other axis>: Specify the other axis to draw the ellipse dynamically. To specify the rotation, choose Rotation and specify the angle of rotation.

To draw an ellipse by specifying the center point

  1. Specify the center point of the ellipse.
  2. Specify the endpoint of the major axis.
  3. Specify the half length of the minor axis.

Choose Center.

Center of ellipse: Specify the center point of the ellipse.

Endpoint of axis: Specify the endpoint of the axis.

Rotation <Other axis>: Specify the other axis to draw the ellipse dynamically. To specify the rotation, choose Rotation and specify the angle of rotation.

To draw an elliptical arc

Draw toolbar: ()

Draw menu: Elliptical Arc

  1. Specify the start point on the major axis.
  2. Specify the endpoint on the major axis.
  3. Specify the half length of the minor axis.
  4. Specify the start of the arc.
  5. Specify the end of the arc.

Choose Arc.

Center <First end of ellipse axis>: Specify the endpoint of the ellipse axis. To specify the center point of the ellipse, choose Center.

Second end of axis: Specify the second endpoint.

Rotation <Other axis>: Specify the other axis to draw the ellipse dynamically. To specify the rotation, choose Rotation and specify the angle of rotation.

To draw an elliptical arc by specifying its center point

  1. Specify the center point of the elliptical arc.
  2. Specify the endpoint of the major axis.
  3. Specify the half length of the minor axis.
  4. Specify the start of the arc.
  5. Specify the end of the arc.

Choose Center.

Center of ellipse: Specify the center point of the elliptical arc.

Endpoint of axis: Specify the endpoint of the major axis.

Rotation <Other axis>: Specify a point on the other axis. To specify the angle of the elliptical arc, choose Rotation.

Parameter <Start angle of arc>: Specify the start of the arc. To create the arc using a parametric vector equation, choose Parameter.

Parameter Included <End angle>: Specify the end of the arc. To create the arc using a parametric vector equation, choose Parameter.

To draw an elliptical arc by specifying its center point and rotation angle

You can define the major to minor axis ratio of the elliptical arc by rotating a circle about the first axis.

Choose Rotation.

Rotation around major axis: Enter the rotation angle, or specify a point.

Parameter <Start angle of arc>: Specify the start of the arc. To create the arc using a parametric vector equation, choose Parameter.

Parameter Included <End angle>: Specify the end of the arc. To create the arc using a parametric vector equation, choose Parameter.

To draw an elliptical arc using a parametric vector equation

You can draw an elliptical arc by specifying its parametric vector equation. The equation is:

     p(u) = c + a* cos(u) = b* sin(u)

where c is the center of the ellipse and a and b are its major and minor axes, respectively.

Choose Parameter.

Angle <Start parameter>: Specify the start parameter of the arc. To create the arc by specifying the angle, choose Angle.

Angle Included <End parameter>: Specify the end parameter of the arc. To create the arc by specifying the angle, choose Angle. To specify the included angle of the arc, choose Included.
