Forms a single compound entity from a group of entities.

 

  1. Specify the insertion point for the block.
  2. Select the first entity you want included in the block.
  3. Select the second entity you want included in the block.
  4. The block, when inserted into your drawing.

DIALOG BOX OPTIONS

Name Enter the name of the new block. This is the name that you will enter when inserting the block using the Insert Block command or will select when using the Explorer for blocks.

Description Enter a description for the new block.

Base Point

  • Specify on Screen Choose to specify the base point for the block after you click OK in the dialog box. The base point is the point at which the block will be inserted.
  • Pick Base Point Click () to specify the base point of the block by temporarily closing the dialog box, selecting the base point in the drawing, and then returning to the dialog box. The base point is the point at which the block will be inserted. This option is not available if you select Specify on Screen (for Base Point).
  • X,Y,Z The x, y, and z coordinates prefill automatically if you pick a base point, or you can enter the coordinates manually. This option is not available if you select Specify on Screen (for Base Point).

Entities

  • Specify on Screen Choose to specify the entities that you want included in the block after you click OK in the dialog box.
  • Select Entities Click () to specify the entities that you want included in the block by temporarily closing the dialog box, selecting them in the drawing, and then returning to the dialog box. Or click () to select entities by type or value. This option is not available if you select Specify on Screen (for Entities).
  • Retain entities, Convert to block, or Delete entities Select what you want to do with entities that are included in the block. To keep the entities in the drawing, choose Retain entities. To keep the entities and convert them into the block, choose Convert to block. To remove the entities from the drawing, choose Delete entities.

Behavior

  • Annotative Choose if you annotative scaling to be an option when you insert this block. This can be helpful if the block contains entities such as text or dimensions that might be scaled at different ratios when viewed or printed.
  • Match Layout Orientation Choose if you want the block oriented automatically in paper space according to the layout viewport. This option is only available if you select Annotative.
  • Scale Uniformly Choose to retain the aspect ratio if the block is scaled. Annotative blocks must be scaled proportionately.
  • Allow Exploding Choose to allow the block to be exploded into separate entities.
  • Unit Select the unit of the block, for example inches or millimeters.
