Measure

Keyboard: MEASURE

Alias: ME

Places markers (point entities or blocks) along a selected entity according to a specified interval length. The markers are placed starting at the endpoint closest to where you select the entity.

  1. Select the entity you want to measure.

Result.

A circle is measured along its circumference starting from the angle set in the ANGBASE system variable. Therefore, if it is set to zero, the measurement of the circle starts from the 3 o'clock position. Polylines are measured starting from their first vertex.

Use the Measure command to place points on an entity, and then use Node Snap to draw lines by snapping from point to point along the measured entity. Remove the measure points on the first entity by using the Delete command and choosing Previous Selection from the prompts.

To use points as measurement markers

Select entity to measure: Select a line, arc, circle, ellipse, polyline, or spline.

Specify segment length or [Block]: Enter the distance at which you want points placed on the entity, or pick two points in the drawing to specify the distance between points. If you pick points on the selected entity, you might need to temporarily turn off entity snaps by clicking Entity Snap Settings in the status bar or by pressing F3.

Points on the entity might not be visible immediately.
You can change the style and size of all points in the drawing. On the Drawing Settings - Entity Creation tab, choose Points. Or type ptype in the command bar.

To use blocks as measurement markers

To use a block as a measurement marker, the block must already exist.

  1. Select the entity you want to measure.
  2. Blocks placed along the entity to measure the intervals you select.

Result.

Select entity to measure: Select a line, arc, circle, ellipse, polyline, or spline.

Specify segment length or [Block]: Choose Block.

Name of block to insert: Specify the name of the block you want to use as measurement markers.

Align blocks with entity? [Yes/No]: To force the block orientation to conform to the shape or angle of the selected entity, choose Yes. For example, if placing measurement markers on a circle, the orientation of the blocks is rotated about the center of the circle.

  1. Select the entity you want to measure.
  2. Blocks are aligned with the entity being measured.

Result.

To place blocks independent of the shape or angle of the selected entity, choose No.

Specify segment length: Enter the distance at which you want the blocks placed along the entity, measured in the drawing units. Or pick two points in the drawing to define the distance between blocks. If you pick points on the selected entity, you might need to temporarily turn off entity snaps by clicking Entity Snap Settings in the status bar or by pressing F3.
