Keyboard: OLELINKS

Lists, updates, and modifies linked objects within a drawing file. You can embed objects such as files created with other programs into drawing files using the Object command. If these embedded objects are linked to the drawing file, you can update their display when the contents of the embedded file is changed.

DIALOG BOX OPTIONS

Links Lists the objects currently embedded in the drawing, the type of object embedded, and how the object is updated.

Update Now Manually updates the embedded object. If the content of the source file changes, the display of the object is updated. For example, if you embed an object, and then open the originating program and edit the file, you can use Update Now the next time you open the progeCAD drawing so that the changes are displayed.

Open Source Starts the program in which the embedded object was created and loads the object for editing. For example, if you embedded a Microsoft® Word document in an progeCAD drawing, clicking Open Source starts Microsoft® Word and loads the schematic.

Change Source Lets you change the embedded file without having to delete and re-insert it in the drawing. Click Change Source, and then find the file you want to embed. The new object replaces the old one on the list.

Break Link Disconnects the object from the source file. The object is not removed from the drawing; only the connection to the source file is severed. After you break the link, you cannot re-establish it, and you cannot edit the file with its originating program by double-clicking the object.

Source Shows the directory path to the selected object in the Links list.

Type Shows what kind of object is embedded. The type usually indicates what program originally created the object.

Update Sets the update status to Automatic or Manual. Automatic updates the object every time you open the drawing. Manual leaves the object in the same state it was in when embedded or last updated until you choose Update Now to refresh the contents.

TIP Right-clicking an object opens a menu of commands you can use for the object.
