progeCAD Cloud

progeCAD Cloud allows to backup your drawings to the major Cloud services right from the progeCAD program. The following Clouds are currently supported: Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. All you need is to install an application on your PC in correspondance with the Cloud service you choose, using the appropriate progeCAD commands available in the File menu or from the relative toolbar.

How to BACKUP your project on the Cloud (SAVECLOUD Command)

  1. Open a drawing you want to backup
  2. Run the Backup to Cloud command
  3. Select your Cloud service and associated files if such available
  4. Carry out the Backup procedure

As a result progeCAD creates a single *.pcloud archive file in the folder on your Cloud. The *.pcloud file contains:

  1. The DWG file
  2. All relating to it external references (raster images, xref files, fonts, print files)
  3. Additional documents if such available

If synchronization is active, the project archive will be uploaded on the Cloud. Otherwise, the *.pcloud archive will be available only on the computer where it has been generated until synchronization is performed.
Note: Once your Cloud synchronization is performed, the project backup becomes available from any computer with your active Cloud account through the Restore from cloud command.

Cloud - Backup procedure

Toolbar: Cloud
Menu: File > Backup to Cloud
Keyboard: SAVECLOUD

The SAVECLOUD command allows to create a *.pcloud archive containing a drawing and all the associated files. This archive is saved in the respective folder of the chosen Cloud service and when synchronized, all the computers with your active Cloud Account can access the archive. You should keep in mind that backup on the Cloud is just a safety copy of your drawing which can also be accessed from different workstations linked to the same Cloud Account, giving you an extra possibility. The Cloud should not be considered as a tool replacing your own drawing archive.

Backup of a drawing

  1. Before proceeding to Backup, make sure that all the modifications made to your drawing have been saved by using the standard Save or Save as commands.
  2. Execute the Backup to Cloud command from the File menu or from the relative Toolbar.
  3. Select a Cloud service from those available. ATTENTION: only those cloud services will be available which corresponding applications have been installed on your PC

  4. Select the local folder corresponding to the Cloud you have chosen. (It is possible to organize your backup in folders and subfolders. For more details see the next section Select a destination folder).
  5. The Dependencies section allows to add associated files if such available to the *.pcloud archive. Raster images and xrefs are automatically uploaded in this section. You can also decide if to include all Font definition files used in the DWG drawing.
  6. Complete the procedure clicking on the OK button.

At this point you will have your project saved in the local folder of the respective Cloud service with the following syntax: NAMEFILE.pcloud. The synchronization of the folder will go in accordance with your Cloud settings.

The following three functions allow to create, rename and delete folders and subfolders, starting from the main folder of the Cloud service you have chosen. The same structure will be transmitted onto the Cloud and consequently available to all the computers connected to it through synchronization.

How to RESTORE a drawing from the Cloud (OPENCLOUD Command)

The Restore from cloud command allows to open *.pcloud archives synchronized through your Cloud Account on any PC.

  1. Make sure your PC is synchronized with your Cloud Account
  2. From progeCAD execute the Restore from Cloud command
  3. Select the *.pcloud archive you want to restore
  4. Indicate a folder on your PC where to extract the archive
  5. As a result the drawing opens automatically

If any modification is made in your DWG drawing, you need to perform the Save to cloud command over again to update your backup. Consequently you need to synchronize the Cloud.

Cloud - Restore procedure

Toolbar: Cloud
Menu: File > Restore from Cloud
Keyboard: OPENCLOUD

Opening of projects saved on a Cloud

IMPORTANT NOTE: You cannot work or display your projects right on the Cloud, projects must first be downloaded on your computer. The Cloud is only an online backup service.

  1. Execute the Restore from Cloud command

  1. At this step you are prompted to select a path on your computer where to place a folder containing all the project files extracted from the Cloud.
The *.pcloud archive is automatically decompressed and saved on your computer as a normal folder with files.
ATTENTION: You should consider as working files those downloaded on your computer and not the ones uploaded on the Cloud.
  2. After editing your project, if modifications were required, you need to repeat the Backup to cloud command, making sure that synchronization is active, so as to update your online backup.
